What are the risks involved in investing in Mixed Funds?

Investing in mixed investment funds implies assuming a certain level of risk that will depend on the composition of each fund, on market fluctuations and on other factors associated with investing in securities.

In general, investing in funds involves taking the following risks:

  • CREDIT RISK
Due to the quality of the assets in which it invests, as well as its issuers.
  • MARKET RISK
This refers to the risk of the securities being quoted below the price paid for them. In this sense, investments can be affected by:
  • Interest rate risk: both price variations and the duration of the portfolio affect fixed income assets.
  • Exchange rate risk: Exchange rate fluctuation for assets denominated in currencies other than that of the reference interest rate.
  • Market risk from investment in variable income assets: derived from variations in the share price.
  • Risk of investing in emerging markets: political changes or economic circumstances can affect the value of investments.
  • Geographical or sectoral concentration risk: the concentration of our investment in the same area or sector increases market risk.
  • INVESTMENT IN FINANCIAL DERIVATIVE INSTRUMENTS
Investing in derivative instruments (futures, options, etc.) may incorporate a higher risk given the nature of these products.
  • LIQUIDITY RISK
This is the risk of there being no counterpart in the market and, therefore, a product cannot be sold.

The contracting of mixed investment funds involves certain costs that can be found in the Fundamental Data for Investors (Datos Fundamentales para el Inversor - DFI) document of each fund (available on the website and in your local Santander branch).
