What is a fund manager?

It is a public limited company whose corporate purpose is the management and administration of funds and investment companies. Its activities comprise the definition and execution of the investment policy.

The fund management company makes the investment decisions and exercises all of the fund's administration and representation functions. Therefore, it is the management company that invests the capital provided by the participants in the different financial assets that comprise the fund's portfolio: fixed income, variable income, derivatives, bank deposits, etc. Among other obligations, for each of the managed funds, the management company must prepare an informative document known as DFI (datos fundamentales para el inversor, or fundamental data for the investor) which covers all the characteristics of the fund, including its investment policy, risk level, minimum investment, historical profitability, recommended timescale, fees, etc.
