How to open our youth account?
First, tell us whether you, as a parent or legal guardian, are an existing customer:

1. Scan this QR code or log in via your App
The Youth Account for a new holder must be openedvia the legal guardian’s Santander App. A minor can only have one Youth Account.
To start the application, scan the QR code or use your Santander App: Menu > Apply.

2. Prepare documents
All you need to do is upload a photo of the following documents from your smartphone:
- Your child's national identification document, foreigner identification card or passport.
- Family Book or birth certificate.

3. Fill in the details, sign and that’s it!
Fill in your child’s details and, at the end, you’ll be able to sign online.

About the account
They don't have to do anything.
- They will continue to have access to their Santander app, now with all the adult features.
- The role of legal representative disappears (unless you ask us otherwise), and your child acquires full ownership of the account and related products.
- Their account becomes a fee-free Santander Account7 until the age of 28, and they get the Santander Debit Card, with no card issuance or maintenance fees.
- Don't worry: we'll keep you informed about everything as the time approaches.
You must be a parent and a Santander customer to open an account for children and teenagers.
Children from 0 to 17 years old, both inclusive, can have their own account.
All you need is your child’s DNI, NIE or passport, together with the Family Book or a birth certificate confirming your relationship. You can open the account easily from the Santander app or at any branch.
No! The youth account has no opening or maintenance fees.
No, a minor can only have one Youth Account.
Use and control
You can have a Youth Prepaid Card with the youth account if you wish, with no issuance or maintenance fee. You can request it at any time.
This card it´s designed to help young people learn to manage their money safely:
- They are free to make purchases and withdraw cash from ATMs.
- The minimum top-up amount is €6.
- The maximum balance limit is €900.
Ideal for giving them independence while maintaining control from the app.
You can top up the card through the Santander App or at any branch. They can also top it up themselves directly from the account balance, always under your supervision. You can check the balance and transactions in real time at any time and set up alerts to let you know whenever a purchase is made or the card is topped up. This way, you'll always have control over their money while helping them learn how to manage it responsibly. The card can be topped up to a maximum balance of €900. The minor can top up a maximum of €100 per top-up.
If the card is lost or you need to block it, you can do this instantly using the Santander app or by calling our 24-hour customer support. Remember to transfer any available balance to the account before blocking or cancelling the card.
Yes. The Santander App is available for children aged 12 and over, with a version tailored to their age group, making it simple and secure.
Using the App, they can:
- Check their account balance and transactions.
- View the balance and transactions of their Youth Prepaid Card (if they have one).
- Send and receive money with Bizum from the age of 12, always with their legal guardian’s authorisation.
From the age of 12, children can use their own Santander App, built for their needs and circumstances.
To activate it::
- Go to the Parental Controls section in your Santander App and register your child.
- You will then receive their personal login details.
- Share these details with your child so they can download the app and log in.
They will then be able to check their account and start managing their money independently and securely.
Bizum is available for children aged 12 and over.
A legal guardian must activate it via the Parental Controls section in the Santander App.
Customers aged 12 to 17 can send and receive money with Bizum via their Santander App. For security reasons, the following limits apply: €50 per transaction, €150 per day and €500 per month.
1. Incentive of €20 gross (€16.20 net after applicable tax withholding). Promotion valid from 15 September 2026 to 15 December 2026 (both dates inclusive) for individuals under 18 who open a new Youth Account or who already hold a Youth Account with a balance below €30 and make an initial deposit of at least €20. 2. Non-interest-bearing account 0% NIR, 0% AER.
3. The Santander Youth Prepaid Card must be contracted by the legal guardian, who must be a Banco Santander customer, on behalf of the minor. The card can be topped up with a maximum card of €900. The minor can top up a maximum of €100 per top-up.
4. Santander Bizum for Minors is available to minors aged 12 and over who have a national identity card (DNI) or passport. The service is subject to transaction and amount limits and, among other restrictions, does not allow payments to merchants. The service must be set up by the minor's legal representative on their behalf through the Santander App. The legal representative must supervise the minor's use of the service and any payments they make. 5. Simply select the local currency at the POS terminal and the corresponding exchange rate to euros will be applied.
6. Remember that the owner of the ATM may charge its own fee.
