Card Protection Insurance
This covers financial losses related to the use of your Santander debit and credit cards, as well as loss of income in the event of unemployment, temporary disability, hospitalisation, bone fractures or burns.

Ticket protection
If you are unable to use tickets purchased with your card for an event, we will reimburse you up to €1,000 per ticket, up to a maximum of ten tickets per year.
Protected purchase
Covers theft and repair of accidental damage to new goods purchased with your card, up to a maximum of €2,000 per year.
ATM robbery
If you are the victim of a robbery after withdrawing cash from an ATM with your card, you will be compensated for the stolen amount, up to a maximum of €1,000 per year.

What does it protect me from?
- Ticket Protection1: If you are unable to use tickets purchased with your Banco Santander card for an event or show for any of the reasons indicated in the policy, we will reimburse you for the price of the tickets, up to a total of €1,000 per ticket and a maximum of ten tickets per year.
- Protected Purchase1: Covers theft and repair of accidental damage to new goods purchased with your Banco Santander card within 90 days of purchase. There is a minimum purchase amount of €30 and a maximum amount of €1,000.
- Mobile phone theft1: If your mobile phone is stolen, we will reimburse you up to 25% of the price of a new phone purchased with your Banco Santander card, subject to a limit of €300, provided that the stolen phone was purchased within the last four years.
- ATM robbery1: If you are a victim of theft after withdrawing cash from an ATM with your Banco Santander card, you will be compensated for the stolen amount, up to a maximum of €500 per claim.

What do I need in order to take out this insurance?
Anyone aged between 18 and 70 can take out this policy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Card Protection Insurance covers all Banco Santander credit or debit cards held by the policyholder.
The contract is renewable on an annual basis. The final renewal will take place in the year in which the insured turns 74 and the policy will be cancelled at the end of that year.
The policy may also terminate on the next renewal date if any coverage reaches the maximum limit of compensation established for the entire life of the policy.
The policy will be automatically cancelled if the policyholder ceases to hold at least one Santander card. In that case, Santander Generales will reimburse the policyholder for the unused premium for the current year, including the proportional share of the expenses and taxes charged on the premium.
This insurance provides coverage to the insured both in Spain and abroad, except in the following cases:
- Protected purchase: This applies only to Spain.
- Ticket protection: This applies to both Spain and abroad, provided that the ticket has been purchased more than 48 hours in advance.
- In the case of temporary disability, fractures and burns: the diagnosis and corresponding medical report must be made by a competent physician at the public or private health centre where the insured was treated, certifying the diagnosis, date, circumstances and consequences of the accident or illness, as well as the prescribed treatment. Fractures/burns must be diagnosed through a medical certificate issued by a clinic or hospital recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Health.

Any fraudulent, dishonest or criminal act committed intentionally by the Insured or their relatives up to the third degree of consanguinity.
Claims occurring before the effective date of the policy.
Damage or loss caused directly or indirectly to the Insured as a result of the theft or loss of the card, when its use was contrary to the conditions of its issue.
Claims occurring as a direct or indirect consequence of an accident that occurred before the effective date of the policy.
Hospitalisations resulting from scheduled surgical interventions known to the Insured prior to taking out the insurance policy.
The incident must be reported as soon as possible and, in any case, within seven days of becoming aware of it, by calling 910 503 500.
No, because the insurance covers all Banco Santander cards that you hold, without the need to identify each card individually. However, if you are no longer going to hold any Banco Santander cards, you would need to cancel the policy and in that case you would receive a refund of the unused premium.
