How to open our youth account?

First, tell us whether you, as a parent or legal guardian, are an existing customer:

1. Scan this QR code or log in via your App

The Youth Account for a new holder must be openedvia the legal guardian’s Santander App. A minor can only have one Youth Account.

To start the application, scan the QR code or use your Santander App: Menu > Apply.

2. Prepare documents

All you need to do is upload a photo of the following documents from your smartphone:

  • Your child's national identification document, foreigner identification card or passport.
  • Family Book or birth certificate.

3. Fill in the details, sign and that’s it!

What do I need to know about the account for children and teenagers?

The Youth Account is a non-interest-bearing current account (NIR 0%, APR 0%) with no maintenance fee or additional requirements. It is available for individuals aged 0 to 18.

About the account

They don't have to do anything.

  • They will continue to have access to their Santander app, now with all the adult features.
  • The role of legal representative disappears (unless you ask us otherwise), and your child acquires full ownership of the account and related products.
  • Their account becomes a fee-free Santander Account until the age of 29, and they get a free debit card.
  • Don't worry: we'll keep you informed about everything as the time approaches.

You must be a parent and a Santander customer to open an account for children and teenagers.

Children from 0 to 18 years old, both inclusive, can have their own account.

All you need is your child’s DNI, NIE or passport, together with the Family Book or a birth certificate confirming your relationship. You can open the account easily from the Santander app or at any branch.

No! The youth account has no opening or maintenance fees.

No, a minor can only have one Youth Account.

Use and control

You can have a Youth Prepaid Card with the youth account if you wish, with no issuance or maintenance fee. You can request it at any time.

This card is designed to help young people to learn to manage their money safely:

  • It allows purchases and cash withdrawals at ATMs.
  • The minimum top-up amount is €6.
  • The maximum balance limit is €900.

Ideal for giving them independence while maintaining control from the app.

You can top up their card using the Santander app or at any branch. You can check their balance and transactions in real time whenever you want, and you can set up notifications for purchases and top-ups. This means you always have control of their money, while helping them learn to manage it responsibly.

If the card is lost or you need to block it, you can do this instantly using the Santander app or by calling our 24-hour customer support. Remember to transfer any available balance to the account before blocking or cancelling the card.

3. The Santander Youth Prepaid Card must be contracted by the legal guardian, who must be a Banco Santander customer, on behalf of the minor. The card can be topped up with a maximum card of €900.

4. Santander Bizum for minors is aimed at children from 14 years and up, and has amount and operational restrictions; for example, payments to stores are not permitted. The application must be made through the legal representative on the child’s behalf via the Santander app. The legal representative must supervise the child’s use and any payments. 5. Simply select the local currency at the POS terminal and the corresponding exchange rate to euros will be applied.
